Star Grain Pour

Back

I finally got around to casting a 98mm propellant grain with the star mandrel that I got from Jeff Taylor of Loki Research. Here are some pictures of how it went.

Here's the mandrel I got from Jeff at Loki, and a casting base can cap I made.
Mandrel on the base
Casting tube and cap in place
All set up with the propellant poured in
Add the cap
After its cured and the mandrel removed.

I have to say, the spray on mold release (Mann-400 or something) is just amazing. After struggling to pull small 1/2" round mandrels from grains, I was expecting to really have to fight this thing out. I liberally sprayed the mandrel with the release before pouring, and once the propellant cured I gave the mandrel a couple taps on the floor and it popped. Then I was able to easily slide the thing out. Amazing!

View down the core, trying to see the nice clean, smooth interior.
Video of test Burn! About 30 seconds of waiting, then the burn.
